Tormach PCNC 440

OVERVIEW

CNC milling is one of the most common types of subtractive manufacturing. The process uses a computer-controlled rotary bit to carve parts out of a block of material. CNC mills have become more common across garages and backyard workshops as they've grown cheaper and easier to use.

The Tormach PCNC 440 is an industrial-grade CNC mill capable of fitting almost anywhere and cutting almost anything. These are compact CNCs perfect for garages, basements, schools, offices, or machine shops. The PCNC440 CNC mill gives you a cutting area of 10" x 6.25", and it also offers a maximum Z-axis travel of 10 inches that is quite useful while milling thick stocks. It can cut soft materials very well, but with its sturdy build and heavy-duty spindle, it is also capable of cutting aluminum, steel, titanium, and stronger alloys.

WOOD175: Learning the Tormach PCNC Mill

Computer numeric control (CNC) milling is a machining process that employs computerized controls and rotating multi-point cutting tools to progressively remove material from the work piece and produce a custom-designed part or product. Very similar to CNC routers but capable of handling much stronger, heartier materials, CNC mills are suitable for machining a wide range of materials, such as metal, plastic, glass, and wood, and producing a variety of custom-designed parts and products.

In WRK175, we'll provide you with the skills necessary to successfully run the Tormach PCNC 440 CNC mill, including basic tips and best practices to operate the machine, software, and how to use some of the conversational programming routines with the Tormach PCNC 440 mill.
